Every January since 2014 (with an interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic), we have held workshops in Brazil, Princeton or Mexico bringing together faculty and graduate students from Princeton and various institutions in Latin America. This began as a collaboration between Princeton and USP (Universidade de São Paulo). The Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City joined the collaboration in 2018, and the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, joined us in 2024. We follow a reading group format that has evolved over the years: we discuss an extended text by breaking it down into sections of 5-15 lines, with teams of two or three presenters first proposing a draft translation that the group then tweaks, and after that we have a discussion about interpretive questions led by the team of presenters.
